Trivia

- Renee gained a reported 25 lbs. to play Bridget Jones.

- Renee actually worked at a British publishing company for a month in preparation for the role. She adopted an alias as well as her posh accent and was apparently not recognized.

- Renee smoked herbal cigarettes rather than tobacco.

- In order to make her English accent seem more natural, Renee retained it on set even while not shooting. Hugh Grant once noted that he did not hear her speak in an American accent until the wrap party, after the film was completed, where he heard her speak "in a very strange voice" that he soon found out was her own natural tone.

- While preparing for the role of Bridget, Renee worked in a London office. On her desk in this office she kept a framed picture of then boyfriend Jim Carey. Other office workers, who did not recognize her, found this to be odd, but never mentioned it to her for fear of embarrassing her.

22/6/2000  Zellweger Refusing to Drop English Accent Even In Time Off

Bridget Jone's Diary star Renee Zellweger is so smitten with her role as the English PR girl- she's refusing to revert back to her native Texan even in her spare time. Zellweger, who's being coached by Barbara Berkeley, the voice-guru who perfected Gwyneth Paltrow's speech for Sliding Doors, never drops her middle-class British tones, even in the canteen. The film's spokesperson Stacy Mann explains, "Whenever I see her she's speaking in the English accent. It's extremely convincing - and it fooled the publishers where she did two week's undercover work experience. Renee's got the same voice coach as Gwyneth Paltrow. She's on set at all times, listening to everything Renee says. And if necessary they take time out to do voice exercises. They stretch different facial muscles to get the accent."

27/6/2000  Renee Zellweger Fed Up With Eating

Renee Zellweger is fed up with trying to put on weight for her role in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) - because it's making her sick. The Blonde beauty has been eating copious amounts of grub to gain the necessary pounds to play the weight obsessed heroine. But the girlfriend of Jim Carrey says, "It's grown on me now - it's force feeding. The crew bring me my fourth Snickers and say, 'it's time'. I have been eating six pizzas and three candy bars a day. Plus fetucinni alfredo and peanut butter sandwiches."
