George Clooney and co-stars Renee Zellweger attended a red-carpet screening of their movie "Leatherheads" movie on Monday 24 night in Maysville, Ky. in the 471-seat old Washington Opera House.

Even though their new movie "Leatherheads wasn't filmed here, actors George Clooney and Renee Zellweger stopped by to thank Duluth residents for the role of their city played in the football comedy. Clooney and Zellweger kicked off a whistle-stop tour to promote "Leatherheads" with an appearance Monday at the Depot, an old train station in downtown Duluth. The stars arrived aboard a train, wearing period clothes reflecting the movie's 1920s setting.

12/02/2007  Leatherheads Filming Begins

Principal photography has begun on Universal Pictures, Casey Silver Productions and Smoke House's romantic comedy, Leatherheads. The film unites Academy Award® winners George Clooney and Renee Zellweger, with Clooney also directing and serving as one of the film's writers.

Leatherheads, set against the backdrop of America's nascent pro-football league in 1925, will shoot on locations in South Carolina and North Carolina. Joining Clooney and Zellweger in the film are John Krasinski as golden-boy Carter Rutherford; Jonathan Pryce as Rutherford's manager, CC; and Stephen Root as the likeable, if less than objective, sports reporter Suds.

South Carolina locales include Boiling Springs, Anderson, Greenville, Ware Shoals, Greer and Travelers Rest. Among the North Carolina settings are Charlotte, Rural Haul, Spencer, Salisbury, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Statesville.

In the film, George Clooney plays Dodge Connolly, a charming, brash football hero who is determined to guide his team from bar brawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge convinces a college football star to join his ragtag ranks. The captain hopes his latest move will help the struggling sport finally capture the country's attention.

Welcome to the team Carter Rutherford (Krasinski), America's favorite son. A golden-boy war hero who single-handedly forced multiple German soldiers to surrender in WWI, Carter has dashing good looks and unparalleled speed on the field. This new champ is almost too good to be true, and Lexie Littleton (Zellweger) aims to prove that's the case.

A cub journalist playing in the big leagues, Lexie is a spitfire newswoman who suspects there are holes in Carter's war story. But while she digs, the two teammates start to become serious off-field rivals for her fickle affections.

As the new game of pro-football becomes less like the freewheeling sport he knew and loved, Dodge must both fight to keep his guys together and to get the girl of his dreams. Finding that love and football have a surprisingly similar playbook, however, he has one maneuver he will save just for the fourth quarter ...

The actress, who is due to start filming ¡®Leatherheads with George in January, has confessed she is terrified of his reputation for being a practical joker.
Renee told People magazine: I'm scared. I hear he's a terrible prankster and is really patient. He strikes when you least expect it.
I'm going to be on alert, I'm never going to sleep, I'm sure of it. I'll be watching my back, George!,  The Oscar-winning actress has also revealed the secret of her slim frame.
Renee, 37, credits her slender frame on the short lunch breaks she had while working on new movie ¡®Case 39.
She said: We got 20-minute lunch breaks, that's all. At that point, I was like, you know, forget it.
¡°And running around everywhere  that helps keep me in shape too.¡± Earlier this week, Renee revealed she craves British food.
The Cold Mountain confessed at the world premiere of ¡®Miss Potter¡¯ in London¡¯s Leicester Square: I understand the whole beans on toast for breakfast thing. I crave it.

Oscar winners George Clooney and Renee Zellweger are set to star in a romantic sports comedy to be filmed in South Carolina¡¯s Appalachian foothills.
Clooney is a co-writer and will also direct and star in ¡°Leatherheads,¡± which is set in the 1920s just as pro football begins to catch on in America. Leatherheads is to start filming in the Upstate in February for Universal Pictures.
